Best of Both Worlds

Earn Your Associate Degree

Elevate Your Future

Earn Your Degree and Expertise Together

At the Sheet Metal Institute, we believe in providing our apprentices with the best opportunities for both professional and academic success. Thanks to our innovative partnership with Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC), graduates of our 5-year program automatically earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree upon completion.

We are proud to be one of the first union apprenticeship training centers in the nation to offer this invaluable benefit. This means our graduates leave with:

  • Exceptional hands-on experience and skills.
  • A recognized academic qualification that enhances career prospects and professional growth.

Great news! Graduates of our program from 2018 onward can also take advantage of this opportunity to earn an associate degree. See steps below.

Not only do we offer this opportunity to new graduates, but it is also retroactive to those who completed our training program after June 2018. If you are an eligible graduate, follow these steps to apply:

  1. Log onto MHCC.edu.
  2. Go to MyMHCC login and enter your six-digit MHCC student ID number.
The default username will be your six-digit MHCC student ID number.
The default password will be your six-digit birthdate.
  3. From the Frequently Used Links, select Apply for Graduation.
  4. Select “Submit a graduation application” and complete the form.
  5. Choose Associate of Applied Science Degree, Apprenticeship (AAS).
  6. Provide your job title.
  7. Upload a photo or scan of your journey card.

You’ll receive an email from Parchment approximately four weeks after the school term ends. This email will confirm your diploma mailing address and provide access to your digital diploma. Your physical diploma will be delivered via mail within two to four weeks following the email confirmation.

If you have questions, visit MHCC.edu or email the college at apprenticeship@mhcc.edu to learn more.
